The art of cáncer

Obra en proceso de Jonathan López 2017

One does not fully understand the vagaries of life. We almost always end up overwhelmed by our thoughts when trying to understand them. Many simply stagnate. But there must be a tool that allows somehow remove these emotions. And of course they exist! Art is the right tool for this hecatomb.

Through art, precisely through painting, I was able to extract many frustrations accumulated during my battle against cancer (which still continues). Recovering from surgery and enduring cycles of chemotherapy wrapped my thoughts and plunged them into a lot of grief and misery. I created in my mind a series of images that I had to expel.

Many people asked me to paint happier things. And certainly colorful and cheerful things could improve my condition. But the artist is a communicator. He has a responsibility to express his ideas, whatever they may be. "If you have to say something, say it", advised me the great master of plastic arts Manuel Toribio, my teacher. And in that moment that was what came out. A series somewhat tenebre but sincere.

The materic of the brushstrokes were minimal and what strengths he did not have. But more than anything, the minuscule of the material represented the smallest of my being in those days. To the extent of looking like watercolors on canvas.

All this expression that sprung from the spirit of a broken and dying soul has become clear. The heart of an artist is insilent. It is not necessary to understand the intentions of the wind. Nor because a rock prefers to remain still. Nor what is the duty of a flame. Whether life makes sense or not does not matter. It only matters to live and share your experiences with humanity. It only matters not to intimidate you and say what you feel.

You have art. You have good art. Then you can die.

Commitment: THE MAGIC OF BEING IN LOVE WITH THE WORK TO PAINT!

Not only emulate the figures that cross in front of light and shade in time and space. Not enough to give colorful details and understand the purpose of complementation, much less a good grasp of perspective or proportions in the composition.

Divine love

A family portrait: A STEEP MOUNTAIN!

The Santanas
Another piece that could mean almost makes me a journal or diary for herself is the family portrait. A work that required me to focus all my strength. It was certainly the most arduous by the fact that it was not one or two but four faces and half of their bodies. And customer requirements increased by gravity to accept the amount payable.

Magnanimous longevity: PORTRAIT POSTHUMOUS 2!

portrait of Asela Certad By Jonathan RL

Why do we exist? What is the reason for our stay? What should be the end result? ... Worth it? you need to be present in four dimensional drawings to consider that something exists. The first three dimensions and the fourth dimension: time. We exist because we remain. We stay in seconds, minutes, hours, days and years in the universe.

What is the reason? That depends on us. The purpose of our life depends on how you look at the world and how we act against circumstances that manifests itself in our way as time travelers we are.

Victorian Romance: PORTRAIT POSTHUMOUS

Autor: Jonathan R.L
Portrait posthumous of Virginia Elena Ortea 2014

The Victorian age certainly be considered a unique era. It ranged from architecture to fashion, from the literary and theatrical works to the art itself. His pastels were present in every situation.
This time pertains to an portrait with oil technique in which I represent the softness of color that was personified in the figure of a renowned author in the Caribbean: Virginia Elena Ortea (poet, essayist, playwright, of Puerto Plata and one of the first feminists caribbean in Vitorian age. Oil on canvas (22x28 "vertical).. A pioneer in its literary style in the Dominican Republic. But that unfortunately died untimely. As well as its full of beauty, feeling, and rich in tone, writing style and the paintings captures the essence of the era and an unfinished sentence emanating from the mere observation of the final work.
The visual and technical romance that lived in the progress of this great work custom, my curiosity aroused by this posthumous model. I can assure that having investigated everything related to this premature writer I was immersed in an intimate relationship of mountain experiences and amalgamated delusions pigments remarkable pastel colors of the artwork.

The Ascension: THE SPLENDOR OF OIL PAINTING (part 1)!

In art history there has been a kind of painting that has caused so much commotion as oil painting. Its texture, pigmentation and results. Just look how evokes the shadows and lights with details about anything unrelated to the feeling of viewers. The sensitivity transmitting a well worked oil portrait is almost a divine experience.

Later publishes some recent portraits. But now I will show you my promotion to this technique that I've stuck voluntarily. It's like opiate dependence: lifetime and transcendent.
